"TILES" Design - Post Card Swap - Postmark by December 9th

During a recent road trip I photographed some tile work and tile design art in various places I visited.  Inspiration can pop up anywhere!  I don't think we've had a "Tiles-" themed swap yet, so let's give this a try.  (We're talking about "tiles" made from paper or card stock, not ceramics, of course.)

There are different ways you might approach the theme:

- fill your entire space with paper "tiles" (this may require some math)
- make a "tile" border around a central design
-feature one, or a few, decorative "tiles"
etc.

Participants may use any method to create 1 - 4 post card-sized art pieces 6" x 4+1/4" with post card postage (35-cents each).  These will  be exchanged with designated swap partners.  (Slightly smaller-sized art is fine.  If larger, please enclose 1st Class postage of 55-cents each.)

Your design may incorporate collage, drawing/sketching/
paintng, rubber stamping, photography, etc.

A Google search for "TILE ART" may be of interest.  Or look at walls, floors, old tin ceilings, trivets around your home or place of work for some ideas.

What I did first (besides measuring and cutting out "tiles" from patterned scrap-booking papers) was to ink-distress the base/background paper, and its edges.  Then I used ink pads to "scuff" the edges of each "tile" piece before gluing it into place with white glue.  Finally, I put the glued post cards between waxed paper in a book, and weighed it down while they dried.

I suppose a thin layer of matte gel medium over the whole surface of each card after the glued pieces dry would help to keep them from peeling off.
