SHADOWS - Post Card Swap - Postmark by Monday, April 24th

Have you ever made shadows with your hands in front of a flashlight beam?

How many people notice shadow patterns when the sun is shining?

Who has taken a picture which includes his/her own shadow in it?  (I know at least one person who admits to doing that, smiles...)

Shadows often show a distorted or altered impression of the object that's between the viewer and the sun or other light source.

Shadows seem longest when the sun is lower in the sky.  These long blue tree shadows stretching across a snowy hill (see picture above) drew me back to the scene with my camera and prompted this swap theme/challenge. To me it almost looks like strands of blue hair...

Days later, now the shadows are green!!!

For this post card exchange you may use photo's, create collage with others' images, or even sketch, draw or paint images of shadows.

One quirky interpretation might be to portray shadows that do not line up with the original image.  For example, a dog's shadow in front of, or in back of, a cat.

Or, feature a shadow that is exaggerated or visibly distorted from the original object's shape.

The above was a shadow of a tall glass vase which was perched on a window ledge in the sunlight.

This Crabapple tree's trunk and its shadow seemed to line up perfectly- I couldn't resist taking this picture.  Here's what I did with it:

It's Spring, Finally! - Post Card Swap - Postmark by APRIL 17th

by hhc

As I write this it is still cold in the northern states and snow covers the ground.  But there is hope for warm, sunny weather ahead if we can just be patient.  Birds will be nesting, rabbits rabbiting, north-bound Canada geese honking and flying overhead.  Time to order some flower and vegetable seeds and try once again to have a garden, despite the voracious local deer population.

For this group mailart exchange, participants may create 1 - 4 post cards with their choice of mediums:  paint, ink, rubber stamping, (collage) etc.  Have fun making some happy Spring art to share.
