This swap would certainly lend itself to Zentangles. Asemic writing. Or numbers, text, abstract figures.

Paint, ink, collage, rubber stamping, Washi tape, etc. I know I'll be tempted to add a touch of color.  I'll be good, you be good :)

Autumn Leaves Will Fall! Postcard Swap - Postmark by Monday October 10th

(Real Maple leaf) Collage by hhc

Summer is on the way out.  It's the time of seasonal change and the leaves started turning gorgeous shades of red and orange and yellow weeks ago.  The Sugar Maples are most glorious this year.  There are many ways to celebrate the Autumn season, but let's feature LEAVES in our art.  (Include trees, too, if you want to.)

DESIGN-A-MUG Paper Swap - Postmark by Monday, October 3rd

Drip & Drag Paint mug, collage, rubber stamp images
with Gelli-Plate Print Background by hhc

As cooler Autumn days approach (in some parts of the country), some of us are thinking about trading in our ice cream cones for cozy mugs of soup, coffee, tea or hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course).

Participants, create 1 - 4 MUG post cards (6" x 4+1/4") with your own design and shape, whether tall or chunky, fancy or plain.  An internet search for hand-decorated mugs can be a springboard for great ideas.

Designing your mug art on a card stock postcard background is an option.  Another is cutting out the shape with no background.  If you do that, please keep your overall design smaller than 7" x 5".

I highly recommend using CARD STOCK (index card weight) rather than cardboard or poster board, as the stiffer, thicker heavier-weight paper would require more postage, of course.

Some idea-starters might include Marbleizing technique, rubber stamped designs, collage, spray inks, Gelli Plate prints, the recent Drip and Drag paint technique, etc.

If your art requires  an envelope to go out to your swap partners, I will provide the envelopes so you won't have to enclose envelopes in your mail-in to me.  (Recently we've seen some problems with several light-weight envelopes getting ripped open, chewed up and spit out by the US Postal sorting machines. Sometimes the contents make it, sometimes they don't.)

Drip and Drag Paint - Post Card Swap - Postmark by Tuesday, September 27th

Popsical Pals?  by hhc

For this paper post card swap we will use liquid acrylic paints or slightly watered down tube paints to make abstract designs on card stock (sturdier than copy paper).  Our friend Beau sent me an email with pictures of this technique that made me just want to go to my art space and play with paint!!!

by hhc

The examples she included in her email showed paint drops (1/4" to 1/2" blobs) dotted near each other on paper, and then dragged down the page with a squeegee to spread/smear the paint and create shapes or patterns.
by hhc

You can make a horizontal or vertical row of paint drops, slightly spaced out, or you can spread them out unevenly across your paper.

For my own experimentation I used a long narrow  rubber spatula to push the paint around.  The edge of a plastic ruler also worked well.  Both gave interesting results.  Shown here are some of my beginnings.
by hhc

You can make stripes.  You could wiggle the straight-edge to make squiggly lines.  I rotated mine to make a rainbow!

by hhc

One possibility might be to cut your finished results into sections to make collage.  Another might be to use your paint design as a background for drawing or rubber stamping.

by hhc

I'm counting on you to come up with unique ways to use your paint-dragging results.  Can't wait to see what swap participants create!
