This swap features two out of 'four ways to slice it.'
The approach for all four of your post cards will be COLLAGE. You may enhance each collaged post card base with other mediums or techniques to complete it.Participants will be making two (2) cards with the first technique and two (2) cards with the second technique for a total of four (4) cards to be exchanged.
For your first and second card: SLICE & ALTERNATE
Full sheet of glued alternate strips
2. Then line up the strips, alternating every other one, on a piece of 8+1/2 x 11 cardstock, side-by-side in the order the images were originally arranged.
4. Glue them in that position (one strip at a time), alternating strips from the two pictures.
ALTERNATIVE option: use a full sheet white label sheet with the sticky side up on which to arrange your strips, but be careful- if they get snagged before you position them, your strip(s) will be ruined.)
For your first and second card: SLICE & ALTERNATE
Full sheet of glued alternate strips
1. Take TWO photo's, magazine pictures, or your own paintings with similar or contrasting color schemes. Slice them lengthwise into equal-width strips. I used 1"widths in the examples but 3/4" would work as well or better. (They don't HAVE to be equal widths...)
CUT DOWN YOUR COLLAGE INTO POST CARDS. (EXTRA PIECES COULD BE USED TO MAKE ATC BACKGROUNDS FOR FUTURE SWAPS...)
Trimmed piece
For your third and fourth card: SLICE/ALTERNATE/SHIFT
3. Shift every other strip up (or every other one down) about one inch, taking care to visually line up the images of every other strip horizontally, see shore line in example.
4. Glue them to a full-sheet piece of cardstock in that position (one strip at a time). (I don't recommend label sheets for this more complicated arrangement.)
Full sheet of alternating, shifted pieces
1. Select ONE photo, or magazine picture, or your own painting. Select a contrasting picture (with obvious good horizontal lines like my mountain range)
Slice both pictures lengthwise into equal-width strips. I used 1" wide strips in the examples.
2. Then alternate the strip and line them up on a piece of 8+1/2 x 11 cardstock, side by side in the order they were originally.
3. Align the tops of the strips from first sheet so they all meet the top of the base sheet of paper.
4. Insert the strips from the second picture/sheet, the one with horizontal design lines in between the first set of strips.

Okay. This should result in four cards, two of each design/technique, to be exchanged with your swap partners. Please contact me if you have any questions about the process.
