Mixed media ATC swap – due October 20th

 

You ATC lovers keep asking and asking for an ATC swap, and yet I keep hosting postcard swaps.

At last – your requests have been answered.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, an ATC is an Artist Trading Card.  They are small works of art, the size of a playing card, or baseball card, and artists create them to trade with other artists.

For this swap, there is no theme.  Use any kind of imagery you’d like.

The challenge here is technique-based.

Your ATC must be mixed-media.

What is mixed media?

Any piece that uses more than one type of material (or media).

So, for example, a piece combining paper and acrylic paint and ink.

Or watercolors, rubber stamping and glitter.

(there are endless possibilities.  You could use crayons, pastels, markers, modeling paste, image transfers, stickers, tape, embellishments, thread, fabric, yarn, lace, plastic, pencils, ink, spray paints, pressed flowers, photographs, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS:

Your card must be made on a sturdy base that is 2.5 x 3.5 inches.

You must use at least three different media in your work

(This one uses acrylic paint, pen, spray ink, washi tape, painted acetate and found text.)

Swap details:

• You may submit as many as four cards (you will get back the same number you send, each from a different artist)

• If you're sending me more than one, please make sure you insert waxed paper or parchment in between the cards so they don't get stuck together in the envelope

• Write your name and contact info on the back of each ATC.  Also write “MMSA mixed-media” on the back, and list the materials you used to make your card.

• Include one mailing label with your name and address (I will mail multiple cards in a single envelope)

• Figure out how much it will cost you to mail your envelope to me, and then include that much return postage in the envelope.  You can include stamps, or cash, or you can send me money via paypal. (iamrushmore@gmail.com)

• International swappers are welcome.  If you’re not sure how much postage money to send, email me and tell me the weight of your envelope and I’ll help you calculate the proper US postage.

Mail your cards no later than October 20th. (I don’t need to receive them by the 20th, they need to be postmarked by the 20th.)

"Stamp Head" ATC swap - Due February 3rd

For this swap we will be creating Artist Trading Cards featuring people with postage stamps as heads.

Leslie emailed me this idea months ago and I've been dying to try it.

Here's one of Leslie’s creations to inspire you:

The key to this swap is using an actual postage stamp that has a picture of a head and then creating some kind of body to go with that head.

I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

Swap details:

• create an Artist Trading Card (traditional ATC dimensions of 2.5 x 3.5 inches) featuring people (or animals) whose heads are actual postage stamps. It can be a new stamp or a cancelled stamp, a foreign or vintage or current stamp.  As long as it’s an actual stamp and not a reproduction or fake stamp.

• make as many cards as you like - you will get back the same number you send

• if you're sending me more than one, please make sure you insert waxed paper or parchment in between the cards so they don't get stuck together in the envelope

• Sign the back of your card and consider including your contact information/email address so that your partner can thank you.

• Include one mailing label and enough postage for me to return your envelope to you. (I will try to re-use the envelope you send me)

•  International swappers are welcome.  Send me postage money via paypal (iamrushmore@gmail.com).  $1.10 $1.15 covers a one ounce envelope.  If you're making many cards (or particularly lumpy cards) email me and we can talk about price.

Black and White Doodle ATC - part 1

Black and White doodle ATC - Mail by April 1st

Calling all doodlers and Zentanglers!
For this swap we will doodle or tangle an ATC using only black and white.
 It’s okay to add a collage element or printed image, as long as the majority of the card is doodled.

(I'm not much of a doodler or ATC maker, but I think you the idea)

SWAP DETAILS: 

• Doodle a black and white artist trading card in the standard ATC size – 2.5” x 3.5”  (64mm x 89mm)

• Include your name and contact information on the back of your ATC (address and/or email and/or blog) so that you partner can thank you or find out more about you.
• Please limit yourself to 2 cards (so far the ATC swaps aren’t as popular as the postcard swaps.  If you send me five I might not be able to send you five in return!)
• Stick your ATC in an envelope with a self addressed stamped envelope.
•  mail it to me no later than April 1st
